AMISOM CAPTURE AL SHABAAB STRONGHOLD

African Union forces with the help of the Somali National Army have captured key territory belonging to terror group al-Shabaab.
The Amisom troops on Wednesday, April 27 took control of new al-Shabaab areas near Hudur town, capital of Bakool region in southwest Somalia.
Governor of Bakool region Mohamed Moalim told the media that the SNA and Ethiopian forces who are under Amisom forces captured the territories that were under the control of al-Shabaab.

Moalim said the militants did not resist the takeover of the areas instead fled.
“The operation still continues, and it is aimed at liberating more areas under the group control at moment,” Moalim said.
The al-Shabaab jihadist group have held fort in East Africa for over a decade and has been the force behind numerous terrorist attacks in the country and its neighbors.
Attacks of note carried out by the al-Shabaab group in Kenya include the 2013 Westgate Seige, the Mpeketoni massacre and the Garissa University College massacre.
