CS MATIANGI ON EDUCATION CHANGES

New changes in the third term of the school calendar have been announced.
Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 announced that there will be no midterm break during the third term of the academic year.

Also scrapped will be prayer meetings for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams candidates, prize giving and thanks giving days.
Activities such as annual general meetings will now be conducted in the first and second terms of the schools calendar year,” Matiang’i announced at a press conference in Nairobi on Wednesday, May, 18, 2016.
However, regular prayer meetings that students hold within their various institutions have not been scrapped.

At the same time, the current second term has been extended by one week for all public schools across the country and will be opened on August 29, 2016 for third term.
Kenyan schools are not new to changes in dates for key events as the KCPE and KCSE exams.
In the past, the timetable for national exams has been shifted severally to accommodate learners catch up on time lost for one reason or another.
In most of the cases, it has been due to teachers strike.
