IEBC COMMISSIONERS CORRUPT

Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will be grilled this week over a report that implicates some of them in corruption.
The nine commissioners will appear before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee days after the committee threatened to withhold the IEBC budget unless they satisfactorily responded to allegations in the report of the House Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
Those expected before the committee are Isaack Hassan (Chairman), Lilian Mahiri-Zaja (Vice-Chairperson), Mohamed Alawi and Thomas Letangule. Others are Albert Bwire, Kule Godana, Yusuf Nzibo, Abdullahi Sharawe and Muthoni Wangai.
Last week, the commission's CEO, Ezra Chiloba and the vice-chair were turned away after the committee insisted that it wanted all the commissioners to appear before it.
Yesterday, the MPs insisted that they would not work with the current commissioners unless the committee conditions are met. "We cannot continue approving money when allegations are hanging over their heads. We are however aware that denying them money will cause disruptions in their operations, but equally, giving them money when they have not sufficiently responded to the questions raised will have implications," said David Ochieng (Ugenya).
