President Uhuru Kenyatta's Ukambani tour has been postponed to next month, State house has said.
Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that he will lead other leaders from the region to welcome the president.
The new dates were announced after a consultative meeting between the president and Ukambani MPs on Wednesday morning.
The President and the leaders agreed on June 10 to June 13, 2016 as the new dates for the visit.
Manoah Esipisu, the Statehouse spokesperson, said the delegation of 12 legislators from the region agreed that the visit be pushed to next month.
The group was led by Mwingi Central Joe Mutambu.
Esipisu, in a statement, said: "the head of state will proceed to the region on a three-day tour where he would steer a development agenda for Ukambani".
"The leaders acknowledged the extraordinary circumstances that led to the postponement of the visit. They were delighted that it had allowed them more time to prepare and to ensure that all projects to be commissioned are ready," reads the statement.
"On June 10, the head of State will be in Machakos before proceeding to Kitui on June 11 and 12. The President will finalise at Makueni on June 13," Esipisu said.
He said the Kitui itinerary will include an Interdenominational church service.
Apart from development agendas, Esipisu said the president looks forward to meeting and interacting with the citizens from the lower eastern region.
