Opposition leader Raila Odinga is understood
to have held a meeting with his former ally
and deputy prime minister Musalia Mudavadi
on Saturday, June 4, in Nairobi.
The meeting between the two leaders is
believed to have discussed the continued
stand-off between the government and the
opposition over the removal from office of
IEBC commissioners.
In the meeting, it is understood that Raila
discussed with Mudavadi the recent
developments where Jubilee reneged on a
deal allegedly struck when Raila and Moses
Wetangula visited State House on May 31,
2016.

Raila has maintained that he agreed with
President Uhuru Kenyatta to form a 10-
member team that would oversee the talks
the opposition has been calling for.
“I am ready to swear with the Bible…we
agreed that we should come up with a team
of five — each from the coalitions — and it is
very dishonest of the president and his
deputy to lie to Kenyans on national
television,” said Raila during a prayer rally
in Kisumu.
The claims have, however, been denied by
State House, who claim Raila is lying to the
public.
President Uhuru and his deputy, William Ruto,
have also maintained that they did not reach
such an agreement and want the opposition
to follow the law if at all they want the
commissioners out of office.

Such is the talk that has seen the Cord write
to the Nairobi county Police Commander
Japheth Koome notifying him of a planned
Monday, June 6, anti-IEBC protest in Nairobi
and across the country.

The notification has since been turned down
by the police on grounds that a court order
issued on April 29, bars the Cord leaders from
staging protests.
So why did Raila meet Mudavadi
secretly?
It is not very clear the kind of help the ODM
leader is seeking from the Amani National
Congress leader but it can be remembered
that the two men now share the same with
regards to Jubilee.
Raila’s claims that Jubilee has changed tune
in the deal reached in State House echo well
the infamous change of tune Uhuru Kenya
hurled at Mudavadi prior to the 2013 general
election.
Mudavadi had apparently reached a deal with
Uhuru that he (Mudavadi) would be the
coalition’s flag-bearer, but members of
Uhuru’s side prevailed upon the president who
changed tune and accused the devil of lying
to him to sign the deal.

the Amani National Congress.
According to Raila’s Press Secretary Dennis
Onyango, Mudavadi reminded Raila of the
2013 happenings when they met Saturday
morning.
Onyango says that nobody should be surprised
that Jubilee says it had no deal with Raila on
IEBC. He argues that the culture of disowning
agreements is deeply ingrained in Jubilee.
“Former deputy prime minister Musalia
Musavadi reminded us this morning that in
2013 he entered a deal with Jubilee only for
the party to turn around and disown the
agreement and blame the devil. History is so
stubborn,” Onyango said.

The Cord has given Jubilee until Sunday to
honour the alleged agreement failure to which
they will hit the streets come Monday as they
resume their protests against the IEBC.
