A manhunt has been launched for a driver
who ran over a pedestrian at a Zebra crossing
on Thika Highway on Tuesday morning June
21, 2016, killing the victim on the spot.
According to Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi,
the driver of the saloon car sped off after
causing the 6.30am accident at Homeland
area, in which another pedestrian sustained
serious injuries.
“Eyewitnesses said they were not able to get
the car’s details as the driver took off, but
we will review clips captured by security
cameras in the area to get the driver,” the
police boss said, according to The Star .
A few months ago in March, Transport
Cabinet Secretary James Macharia announced
that all zebra crossing spots and bumps along
the superhighway would be removed this year,
and footbridges erected in their place, to curb
road carnage.
The Homeland area where the accident took
place is among those targeted to begin
footbridge works, as key areas are Blue
Springs Hotel, Mang’u Road, Ruaraka and
Witeithie.
The National Transport and Safety Authority
(NTSA) also recently announced that it is
increasing cooperation with police to crack
the whip on drivers who flout traffic rules with
impunity.
