RAILA ASSASSINATION PLOT STILL ON- MPS

CORD party national chairman John Mbadi and
Homa Bay town MP Peter Kaluma, on
Saturday, June 18, said that they have
received some information from people are
plotting to assassinate former Prime Minister.
Mbadi claimed said he got the information
from a section of jubilee leaders.
“ A plot to kill Raila is in the public domain
but we have sources who have disclosed to
us that it is for political reasons. We are
asking for the security of Raila to be beefed
up to ensure that his life is protected ,”
Mbadi said.
Mbadi accused the Jubilee of detaining CORD
MPs as well as those from the ruling coalition
to divert the attention of Kenyans when plans
of killing the opposition leader are being
planned secretly.
He told the inspector general of police Joseph
Boinnet ensure Kenyans of Raila’s security is
enhanced.

Mbadi was speaking in Magunga, Suba
constituency.
“ Matters of security about leaders of Raila’s
calibre should not be doubted. Boinnet must
do his job by reinforcing his (Raila’s)
security detail ,” he said.
At the same time, Kaluma, during a funds
drive for Homa Bay Central SDA Church, also
claimed that the IG should handle the
assassination rumours of prominet leader with
due seriousness.
“ Robert Ouko, Tom Mboya, JM Kariuki and
Odhiambo Mbayi did not just die, there were
rumours. The government should investigate
these claims,” Kaluma said.

He also asked the director of criminal
investigations Ndegwa Muhoro to carry out
the investigations.
“ As the opposition leader, his security
should be beefed up. The death of Raila
through assassination can be very
disastrous to this country ,” Kaluma added.
Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria was in
trouble again after his remarks about Coalition
for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader
Raila Odinga’s killing.
The MP made the remarks at a rally held in
Kasarani on Sunday, June 12 which led him to
be detained for three days.
However, on Friday, June 17, he was forgiven
by Raila.

CORD POSTPONES MACHAKOS PRAYER RALLY

The Cord prayer rally earlier scheduled for
Sunday, June, 19, in Machakos town has been
postponed.
The meeting will now take place on Sunday,
June 26 at the same venue.

The move is aimed at giving MPs detained for
four days at Pangani and Muthaiga police
stations have enough rest.
“ The rally was meant for me but I needed
time to rest. I feel tired, exhausted and
cannot manage to attend it,” Muthama told
the Star on phone.
The rally was scheduled to take place in
Machakos town for the political prisoners.

Area governor Alfred Mutua had given permit
for the meeting.
On Saturday, June 18, Mutua has issued the
CORD coalition early warnings against
importing violence into the Masaku.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Friday,
June 17, Mutua asked the organizers of the
rally and their followers maintain peace.
“We have 500 functioning CCTV cameras as
well as a rapid response unit to protect the
property and lives of our people. We will not
allow any hooliganism of any kind,” said
Mutua as quoted in the Star.

Though it was expected to be prayer rally,
politics was expected to take centre stage.
The prayer meeting was meant to address
suppression of freedom of expression
following the arrest of the eight MPs over
alleged hate speech.

RAILA IS IN NO NEED OF ABABU NAMWAMBA

The Orange Democratic Movement
(ODM) party has dared Budalangi member of
Parliament Ababu Namwamba to ditch the
party for Jubilee.
ODM Nakuru County chairman, Peter Ole Osono
said that Ababu will be finished politically if he
ditches Raila Odinga, the man who moulded
him politically.
Osono said that Ababu is who he is because of
Raila and ditching his political god-father is like
digging his political grave.
Speaking Sunday in Nakuru, Osono said that
Ababu needs ODM and Raila more that ODM
and Raila need him.

"People are saying that ODM will be dealt a
blow should Ababu decamp but we want to tell
them that Raila is the one who moulded Ababu
politically and if he decamps and ditches Raila,
that will be the beginning of his end in Kenya's
politics," he said.
"We dare him to decamp if he is a real man,"
charged Osono.
Osono added that ODM is not moved by
Ababu's expected move to Jubilee, saying that
the party will get his replacement in record
time.
Ababu currently serves as the ODM Secretary
General.

POLICE DENY RAILA ACCESS TO SEE ARRESTED MPS

Police denied CORD leader Raila
Odinga the chance to see detained CORD
politicians in remand.
Raila was turned away as he attempted to see
Suna East MP Junet Mohammed as well as
other CORD politicians currently in remand over
hate speech allegations.
Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and MPs
Mohamed, Timothy Bosire of Kitutu Masaba,
Florence Mutua who is the Busia woman
representative and Aisha Jumwa the Kilifi
woman representative were held at various
Police stations in Nairobi while they await
Police investigations over the hate speech
claims.
Raila's attempt to see them was futile as he
was told they were out of bounds.
" We have been turned away," Siaya Senator
James Orengo told News24.
They have been remanded four days while
Police hold investigations over the hate speech
claims.
They were arrested and arraigned in court
Tuesday over claims of inciting Kenyans
against each other.
They have so far filed a complaint in court to
have their bond applications fast tracked so as
to see them leave the cells as soon as
possible.

RIOTS IN KIBERA PROTESTING CORD MPS ARREST

Riots have rocked parts of Kibera, Nairobi
after arrests of several politicians from the
Coalition of Reforms and Democracy (CORD).
The riots that had started as isolated
incidents on Monday night, June 13, continued
on Tuesday after the arrests of the opposition
leaders.

Some of the demonstrators in Kibera blocked
roads especially Kibera drive at Makina.
The demonstrators who burnt tires and
mounted barricades also called on the arrest
of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

GOVT SENDS WATER TANKS TO NYANZA

According to several reports in Kenya the
government is said to have bought 10 water
cannons from China to be used to contain
rioters in the country.
The water cannons were to be sent to
Mombasa and Kisumu with each getting two
vehicles while the rest will be in Nairobi.
.Cord has said the
domos wil resume on Monday,June 5 across
the country.
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy
(Cord) said it will continue with its Monday
protests against the IEBC after dialogue with
the government failed.
Cord wants the IEBC bosses including its
Chairman Issak Hassan removed from office
as they are incompetent.
In the last one month the opposition has held
four demonstrations against the electoral
body which have all turned violent.
In the last demonstrations held by Cord
against the IEBC, three people were killed and
more than 30 others injured after violent
protests in Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and
Migori.

RAILA ODINGA'S CAR SPRAYED WITH BULLETS

Cord’s communications director, Philiph Etale, has only stated that “ my boss Raila Odinga’s vehicle was hit at today as they went to the IEBC offices.”
But Raila’s personal assistant Dennis Onyango has stated categorically that the vehicle was shot at and posted the photo below:
Raila’s personal assistant Dennis Onyango posted this photo on his Facebook page claiming that Raila’s vehicle windscreen “was shattered by a bullet.”
The US embassy in Nairobi sent an alert to its citizens living in the country to avoid using Ngong’ Road as protesters from Kibera were apparently stoning motorists who did not stop.
Today’s demonstrations received support from Kenya’s independence party, Kanu, through its leader Nick Salat.

REUTERS: About 300 opposition protesters rallied on Monday to demand the scrapping of an election oversight body they say is biased and its replacement with a new one.
Police used teargas and water cannon to disperse two similar rallies in the past month. On Monday police backed by trucks with water cannon flanked the protesters gathered outside the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Kenya does not hold its next presidential and parliamentary polls until August 2017, but politicians are already trying to galvanise their supporters in a nation where violence erupted after the 2007 vote and the opposition disputed the 2013 result.
The opposition CORD coalition, led by Raila Odinga who lost the 2013 vote and unsuccessfully challenged the result in court, has accused the IEBC of bias and said its members should quit. IEBC officials have dismissed the charge and say they will stay.
"For free and fair election, IEBC must go," read a banner held aloft by one demonstrator on Monday.
Last week, police fired teargas and water cannon at hundreds of protesters, some of whom threw stones. Police also used teargas to disperse a protest last month.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is expected to seek re-election next year for a second and final term, has urged opponents not to take to the streets.
Despite the 2013 legal challenge, that vote proceeded smoothly and Odinga accepted the court ruling in a nation where ethnic loyalties usually trump policy among voters.
After the disputed 2007 vote, about 1,200 were killed in ethnic fighting. Western diplomats have urged the authorities to work carefully with citizens to ensure peaceful elections in 2017.

PRESIDENCY STATEMENT ON CORD DEMONSTRATIONS

In a statement by Munyori Buku from the Presidential Strategic Unit, opposition leader Raila Odinga has been criticized for the anti-IEBC demonstrations that have rocked the country.
State House, is accusing Raila Odinga of fighting the constitution not the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as it cannot guarantee him victory in the 2017 election.
“Raila Odinga is not interested in a new IEBC. He knows that even a new IEBC can neither guarantee him victory in 2017 nor save the cacophony that is CORD. The truth of the matter is that Raila Odinga is fighting the Constitution because it didn’t – and is unlikely – to make him President. Whether a new IEBC is set up or not, Raila Odinga will fight to overthrow the Constitution before or after the election,” part of the statement read.

The statement from State House, claimed Raila was motivated by desire to forcefully remove IEBC from office instead of lodging for a petition.

In 2007, he thundered the same threat and Kenya burned.
And this is not the first time he has fought to overthrow the Constitution.
In 1982, he attempted to overthrow the Moi government. The coup was smashed.
In 2007, he refused to lodge a petition after the election and opted for mass action.
That is why in subversion of the Constitution, Raila Odinga wants forcible ejection of IEBC and enactment of “minimum reforms”, whatever that means.”

Cord staged another demonstration against the IEBC for the third week in a row.
The Monday, May 16 demonstrations turned chaotic and has caused havoc in the Nairobi central business district with looters taking advantage of the riots to steal.

NKAISSERY TO CORD

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has apparently threatened to withdraw security details of politicians who link the police to criminal activities.
Nkaissery said the politicians, mostly from the opposition, were tainting the image of police officers without any evidence.
“They have become incessant by throwing dirt all over the place and not even giving peace to departed souls. They are happy when people die so they can take advantage by accusing our police officers of not working,” said Nkaissery as published by The Star on Monday, May 16.

The minister did not mention anyone specifically but the statement was clearly directed to CORD leaders.
Top opposition leaders have openly pointed accusing fingers at the police following the killing of businessman Jacob Juma. Jacob Juma was shot dead by unknown gunmen on the night of Thursday, May 6, on his way to Karen.
A postmortem conducted on his body revealed that he was shot twice on the chest, with the bullets getting out through his back. The postmortem also revealed that Jacob Juma suffered severe right arm injuries, an indication that he struggled with the killers before he was shot dead.

CORD co-principal Moses Wetangula said police officers should be treated as the gun used to kill Jacob Juma, AK-47, was only in the hands of the police.
Another CORD co-principal, Raila Odinga, claimed that Jacob Juma was murdered because he unearthed the Eurobond saga and the National Youth Service scandal that linked the Jubilee government to corruption and misappropriation of funds.
Raila went ahead to call for US’s Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Britain’s Scotland Yard to take over investigations .
“The government itself is already a suspect in the case. We suspect that the country’s security forces are behind Jacob Juma’s murder and that is why we cannot allow the government to carry out the investigations,” he said.
The leaders have since been directed to record statements with the police on what they know about Jacob Juma’s murder. About 20 people have been summoned for questioning

POLICE INJURE CORD DEMONSTRATORS

Opposition supporters on Monday clashed with police officers as they heed their leaders’ call to storm IEBC offices countrywide to force the electoral body’s commissioners out of office.
In Kisii town, police fired several times in the air and engaged the demonstrators in running battles.
The officers' action came barely minutes after Kisii County Governor James Ongwae and Senator Chris Obure had addressed the demonstrators at the county government headquarters.
"The commission cannot be trusted to oversee a free and fair election in the country. We therefore demand that it is disbanded and replaced by a new body," said senator Obure.
Governor Ongwae said that the drive to disband the commission was not an opposition issue but a public one.
NO GOING BACK
"It is time for the government to listen to the voice of the people. We wish to live in peace, but at the same time we must have a commission that represents the wishes and aspirations of the majority of Kenyans," he said.
The demos, which started from Kisii Hotel, turned chaotic when the protestors attempted to force their way into the IEBC offices.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth Leader Mr Eric Janganya who was one of the demo's leaders said that the party would not relent until the commission is disbanded.
"We will be back next Monday and every other Monday until the commission us disbanded," he said.
Security officers led by County Commander of Administration Police Mr Mohammed Kutsola and Officer Commanding Police Division Francis Kithinji fired several rounds in the air to disperse the protestors.
They engaged the protesting Cord supporters in running battles that raged from the entrance to IEBC offices to Gusii Stadium.
Another group that was dispersed also regrouped at the Daraja Moja Bridge but was quickly dispersed by the police.
However, nor arrests were made.
ACTIVIST, MCAs INJURED
In Kisumu, two MCAs, an activist and an ODM official are nursing serious injuries after they were allegedly beaten by anti-riot police during the anti-IEBC demos.
Ms Nereah Okombo (Manyatta B) and nominated member Pamela Odhiambo were rushed to hospital following injuries sustained during the protest.
Unknown number of people were also injured during the protest against the IEBC.
The riot which entered its third week, attracted a bigger crowd which split itself in three groups, a change of tact from the previous ones creating a challenge to the authorities.
Ms Okombo sustained head injuries after she was hit by a teargas canister while Ms Odhiambo was roughed up by officers from the Quick Response Team (QRT) wing of the Administration Police.

RAILA SAYS HE'S UNAPOLOGETIC ABOUT DEVOLUTION

Cord leader Raila Odinga received a standing ovation as he rose to address delegates at the close of the Third Annual Devolution conference in Meru County on Friday.
Delegates, who had not been attending most of the earlier sessions at the plenary, thronged the mega tent to listen to Mr Odinga’s remarks at the close of the conference.
The Cord leader took a swipe at what he termed powerful enemies of devolution, which he said has transformed the country and improved service delivery.
CONDUITS OF CORRUPTION
However, Mr Odinga, who had little praise for the devolved units, said some counties were being used as conduits of corruption by the National Government.
“I am an unapologetic believer of devolution and I am not ashamed of it. I want to assure all of you that devolution is here to stay. Devolution is a baby we have to nurse and baby sit to maturity despite its deformities, ”Mr Odinga said.
